Alright Kiddos, today I’m going to review Style Savvy: Trendsetters, the second installment in the Style Savvy Series.Style Savvy: Trendsetters was released in October 2012 for the Nintendo 3DS in North America. I’m going to start out by saying that I love clothing, I love fashion games, and I love fashion styling so naturally I love this game! It’s definitely aimed at people with my interests but I’d also argue that it’s very accessible for folks who aren’t intuitively fashion conscious. Meeting Michaela at Mira Luna for the first time. Michaela and I downtown at night. This is towards the beginning of the game when I had a very limited wardrobe and before I bought any make up or styled my hair. You start out as a shop assistant to Michaela, who is the owner of Mira Luna. She teaches you the ropes and gives you pointers on how to style customers, how to purchase items from the buyers center, and even encourages you to enter the fashion contests.
Eventually, she decides to pursue other interests leaves the shop to you to manage and customize to your liking. My first choice for my shop interior was Punk Rock and I renamed my shop “ Riot“.You still see Michaela around frequently.
She helps out the fashion competition center and will drop by your shop to get styled whenever you change your interior to “Street”. My favorite aspects of the game:.
THE CLOTHES! The box states over 12,000 which includes both men’s and women’s accessories. The outfit combinations and endless and the wardrobe rotates seasonally (in real time) which I think is a really great way to keep the game fresh and exciting.
Since it’s currently Fall, so many delicious jackets, sweaters, cardigans, and tights have been released for creating lovely layered outfits. I have a suspicion that they actually hired fashion illustrators and designers because there are so many details, intricacies, and distinctions with each garment.Wearing mostly Marzipan sky. Love the leather bowling purses. Wearing Raven Candle’s Lolita fashion and yes, that is a bunny rabbit purse!Wearing Zhade (the high end brand) and a book purse by Raven Candle.2. You can customize your apartment! There’s a furniture store in town that’s run by a very dapper gentleman named Harris, where you can stop in and purchase drapes, wallpaper, rugs, sofas, pillows, etc in various shapes, color combinations, and patterns using your personal funds. This is a nice addition that is noticeably absent from the first game.
It makes sense to allow you to customize it considering you spend so much time in your apartment changing your clothes and doing your make up. I kind of wish there was more of a selection when it comes to wallpaper colors and bed styles. Doing some kind of dance in the living room. When you leave your character idle on the apartment screen they start to surf the net, eat yogurt, drink water, or brush their hair.
Adorable.Rocking the punk school girl look in Stage Dive. Also, those flowers were given to me by Reed ❤.3. The photo studio! In contrast to Style Savvy 1, the resident town photographer doesn’t follow you around everywhere, screaming excitedly for a pic.
You can actually visit Teagan at the photo studio by selecting the location on the city map. There you can get glossy outfit shots taken for $20. You can choose between patterned backdrops, scenes, or brand names and new backdrops are unlocked during game play. Once the shots are taken. You can view them on your cell phone.I really wish there was the option to take group shots with a friend on the photo studio menu. You really cant.
That only happens on the occasion that you style a customer really nicely and they’re so excited about it that, they invite you to take studio shots with them.Being silly with Michaela. This is Reed. He works at the flower cart in the park. I like to pretend that he’s my character’s boyfriend and she’s in love with him.
He looks a lot like my actual boyfriend in real life.Usually when you meet up with a friend at an event, they’ll take a group picture with you as well to commiserate the occasion.I really love the Yukata my character is wearing. It’s from the Asian Inspired brand, Kanokoi.4. I really love that this game has the option to style men! Fashion isn’t just for femmes. It opens up the game play a little more and keeps it fresh and diverse. The men’s clothes are just as varied and detailed and intricate as the women’s and there are a few pieces that I definitely want for my own wardrobe. It kinda surprises me that there are no options for men’s bags.
As if men don’t carry bags. Hell, some men even carry purses so why not sell them? The possibilities could have been endless for suitcases, briefcases, even backpacks. Unfortunately, the option to style men is taken away in Style Savvy 3: Fashion Forward. Maybe they’ll put it back in the game for the 4th installment.
A fashionable customer requesting that I style him an outfit. He wound up walking out empty handed cuz I had no idea what he actually wanted and he kept rejecting everything I suggested.
This customer is wearing all Aeronof which is the contemporary/casual clothing brand. Lots of plaid button down shirts, jeans, converse tennis shoes, and baseball caps. Kind of hipster-ish. My second favorite men’s brand. This stylish gentleman just bought my Castellan styled outfit off of the mannequin.
Castellan is the men’s high fashion brand. Tweed, bolero ties, suit jackets, outrageously pricey shiny shoes. Dominic likes this brand a whole lot. They’re hardly ever open at the buyer’s center and there are always limited clothes available for purchase. He’s wearing all Dept. 9 which is the bold, edgy street fashion. Comparable to the women’s brands AZ-USA and Stage Dive.
Lots of leather jackets (in the fall and winter wardrobes) bold printed shirts, leather pants, and combat boots. Probably my favorite men’s brand.I do really like that you have the option of styling a men’s mannequin for the window display.
The window displays play a much more crucial role in sales than the previous game. In this game no one drops by just to compliment the mannequin (which drove me crazy) usually a customer will want to buy an outfit right off the mannequin as soon as you style it. This sometimes happens multiple times in a row and can get a little annoying.
It’s kinda lame that you cannot display both the male and female mannequins at the same time. Customer inquiring about my window display. He purchased! Notice that luscious purple leather jacket.
If my boyfriend dressed like this, I’d be stealing all of his clothes.Men’s brand not pictured: Uber Cloth.5. The fashion competitions in Style Savvy: Trendsetters are much more extensive, involved, and interesting then it’s predecessors from Style Savvy 1 and there’s much less pomp and circumstance when you decide to enter them. Unlike the first one, you can choose your models, and even style their make up and hair to go along with their outfits.
I absolutely love it! Some of the contest themes are are purposely vague and have taken me multiple attempts to beat but I think that’s a good way to keep you on your toes. My outfit entry for the high fashion competition. I styled this lovely model for the bold clothing competition and won! Weirdly, the hair salon doesn’t give you the option to style your own hair into an Afro. Hopefully they will in later games. The competitions are broken down to about 4 different levels ranging from Beginner to International with ten different contests within each level.
Every time you win one level of the contests, the credits roll and you get invited onto the stage to take a bow and a picture. You also have the option of selecting someone to walk the stage with you and stand near you during the photo. When I won the first contest in the international competition, I selected Emmy Lou to walk out with me.I must admit that I get a little misty eyed during every big win. Major characters from the town and even a few repeat customers come with you on the stage to congratulate you and stay for the photo op. With each win, a new clothing item is added to your closet from the brand Teatro Amare, which is the equivalent of Masquerade in the previous game.
At this point, I’m about half way through with the international contest and I’ll be ready with a box of Kleenex when I actually beat it. Women’s BrandsThere are about 19 different women’s brands ranging from Princess to girly to private school uniforms to punk to high end to harajuku etc. Instead of going through each brand and giving a synopsis, I’ll just single out my faves and my least faves. Faves:Marzipan Sky is my absolute favorite brand even though my day to day clothing is NOTHING like these garments. It’s described as girly and charming and the price range is fairly moderate.
There are so many floral patterns, peter pan collars, and youthful silhouettes. I love love love the leather and shearling jackets in muted colors, the boating hats and the oxford shoes! Not gonna lie, my avatar stays dressed in Marzipan Sky 75% of the time and I usually choose the corresponding girly interior for my shop. All Marzipan Sky.
All the time. Loving this floral dress. Better believe I paired it with some two – tone Oxfords.Cantada Modo is probably my second favorite brand. It’s described as the feminine brand for “refined and mature women” so in that regard, it’s comparable to Sonata from Style Savvy 1 (my favorite brand in that game). In reality it’s very similar to what you’d see at Anne Taylor Loft or Zara. The classic blouses, pastel A-line skirts, and bright Pea Coats are delicious.

The bags are sold under a corresponding brand called Cantata Tasca. Cantata Modo is perfect business casual wear but the way I style it on my character is purposely weird and quirky.Really in love with these pinstripe green flare leg pants.Soy Milk is the crunchy, earthy, free spirit boho chic brand inspired by nature. It’s comparable to Terra in Style Savvy 1.
Though it is not what I wear in the day to day at all, I’m really into it. There’s lot of tie dye, beaded chokers, fringed boots, and wide headbands. Lots of what I would describe as “festival wear”. I really wish this game gave you the option of wearing leggings as pants because there are so many cute leggings in this brand that don’t really work layered under skirts because they make the outfits look too busy.
That dream catcher choker is my favorite necklace but I’d never wear it in real life because cultural appropriation. I do however, own lots of blue and purple lipstick shades and wear them on a near – consistent basis. Chilling at home in Soy Milk.Honorable Mention. Stage Dive is the edgy, bold, punk rock brand that’s a favorite of musicians and rebels alike.
It’s similar to the men’s brand Dept. 9 and comparable to Mad Jack from Style Savvy 1. There’s lots of glossy leather jackets, platform combat boots, vertical skinny jeans, and a BUNNY RABBIT SHAPED PURSE WITH A ZIPPER OVER ITS MOUTH!! 15 year old me would have been nuts over this brand. I do however think that skirts and dresses are seriously lacking. Whenever the game starts to get too repetitive, I like to change my shop to a punk interior and style lots of edgy outfits! A customer I styled in Stage Dive.
Love those little devil horns on the hoodie. Least Faves:Zip line – Athletic wear. Hard pass.Le Spark is probably the most confusing brand.
It’s claiming to be “flirty fashion” which I guess means lots of off the shoulder tops black and pink polka dots. This brand doesn’t really have a cohesive look and some of the pieces are so mismatch that it’s hard to put them together to create a complete outfit. This is one of the newer, smaller, more nuanced brands and with brands like this, you don’t really have the option of choosing the corresponding decor.
I suppose the idea is that you are supposed to blend the smaller brands like this one and Harlow Heights with the more prominent ones? If so, I wish that was more emphasized in the game.I could easily keep going all day with this review. But I think it’s pretty safe to say that I love this game. The game play set up, the animation style, the clothes, the daily activities in the city- all wonderful. I honestly think this is the perfect game. I really can’t wait to see what new events are unlocked on holidays and my birthday. I might skip Style Savvy 3: Fashion Forward and go straight to 4 but keep a look out for my review of Style Savvy 1!
